Steve Broome became an office manager/production artist for a San Diego art studio specializing in comic books and animation in 2000 after freelancing out of high school. As such, he did work for Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image Comics, BMG Music Co and others. He developed Flash animation skill early in the internet's original content era through projects for eruptor.com and other sites.
After working in that capacity for 4 years, he left the world of art to pursue a degree in finance. With that newfound combination of business and art expertise, he founded Coal Minds. For Coal Minds, as lead artist and owner his responsibilities range from project pricing and communication, to web design --and writing for both the Coal Minds blog and fictional stories.
Influences include Bill Sienkiewicz, Mike Mignola, Enki Bilal, Frank Miller, Albrecht Durer, Syd Mead, Phil Hale, Akira Kurosawa, Guy Davis, Paul Pope, Sal Buscema, John Romita Jr., The Coen Brothers, PJ Harvey, MF Doom, Common, Pac, Gordon Liu, and pretty much everybody on Curb Your Enthusiasm.
